Katinka Hosszu captures Women’s 200m IM gold: Day four – European LC Championships
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day four of the continued European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Thursday, May 24.
Hosszu displayed her stupendous efforts in the four-lap IM discipline and proved her mettle for the crown of the event.
With her alluring efforts, she faced no trouble in sustaining her fastest qualification spot of the event in the final round. She stayed almost half body length ahead of her strongest challenger and tapped the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a
wonderful time of 2 minutes and 10.84 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Sophie Allen of Great Britain, who stayed 0.65 seconds apart and reached the victory stand for second position by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 11.49 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Evelyn Verraszto of Hungary, who stayed only 0.14 seconds slower and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.63 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who stayed nearly 0.60 seconds apart and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 12.26 seconds.
With her exhausting efforts, Michalak remained just 0.03 seconds ahead of Stina Gardell of Sweden, who claimed fifth best spot of the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 12.29 seconds.
Gardell was trailed by Ganna Dzerkal of Ukraine, who remained nearly two seconds behind and acquired sixth best spot of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 14.33 seconds.
Seventh best qualification spot of the race was secured Alexandra Wenk of Germany, who was 0.62 seconds slower and emerged on the wall by producing a time of 2 minutes and 14.95 seconds. In the meantime, Beatriz Gomez Cortes of Spain was disqualified from
the 200m event.
In addition, the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience for their scintillating efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship. Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men
and Women’s corner.
