Katinka Hosszu claims Women’s 100m IM gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary claimed gold medal of the Women’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Saturday, November 24.
The Hungarian swimmer, who stunned the audience with her gruelling efforts at the FINA World Cup series, continued her dazzling efforts in the European Championships and secured the title of 100m discipline.
With her commendable start, Hosszu gained a marginal lead over her strongest opponent and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 58.83 seconds.
The champion was followed by compatriot, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who remained 0.32 seconds slower from her and cruised her way towards the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 59.15 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Siobhan-Marie O’Connor of Great Britain, who remained 0.57 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall for bronze medal by reporting a time of 59.72 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Emilia Pikkarainen of Finland, who stayed almost 0.70 seconds slower and ended her race in fourth place by clocking a time 1 minute and 00.45 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Sophie Smith of Great Britain, who was 0.09 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.54 seconds.
Subsequently, Smith was trailed by Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland, who stayed 0.26 seconds apart and cruised her way towards the finishing end by reporting a time of 1 minute and 00.80 seconds for sixth place.
Seppala was traced by Sycerika McMahon of Ireland, who was only a stroke behind and reached the finishing end for seventh position by posting an effort of 1 minute and 01.12 seconds.
Last spot of the event was gained by Sophie de Ronchi of France, who was 0.17 seconds slower and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 01.29 seconds.
Furthermore, Hosszu was happy with her title claiming effort in the IM discipline and raked medal and accolade at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
