Katinka Hosszu claims Women’s 200m butterfly gold: Day seven – European LC Championships
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary claimed gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on final day of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Sunday, May 27.
Hosszu demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the distant butterfly event and smothered hopes of her opponents by snaring gold medal of the discipline.
With her impeccable pace, Hosszu remained nearly half body length ahead of her closest challenger and posted a time of 2 minutes and 07.28 seconds.
The champion was followed by her team-member, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who was 0.58 seconds apart and reported a time of 2 minutes and 07.86 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Martina Granstroem of Sweden, who was 0.36 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.22 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain, who was nearly half second apart and tapped the finishing wall for fourth position with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.91 seconds.
Similarly, Belmonte Garcia was chased by Franziska Hentke of Germany, who was just 0.10 seconds apart and concluded her race in fifth best place with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.01 seconds.
Hentke was chased by Judit Ignacio Sorribes of Spain, who remained only 0.13 seconds behind and tapped the finishing wall for sixth position by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 09.14 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed exhausting efforts of Denisa Smolenova of Slovakia, who tried hard to surpass her foregoing finisher but failed to match her pace in the final lap. Smolenova remained nearly one and a half body length away from her foregoing
finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 10.70 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Martina Van Berkel of Switzerland, who was 0.99 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.69 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship while the session ended after the event.
