Katinka Hosszu claims Women’s 400m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary claimed gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Hungarian swimmer, who spoiled the party of her opponents by winning numerous gold medals at the first stop of Series in Dubai, served notice of her talent by continuing her nerve-wrecking form at the second stop in Doha.
With her immaculate efforts in the distant IM event, Hosszu managed to overshadow her toughest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 30.03 seconds.
The champion was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 0.41 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end as second position holder by clocking a time 4 minutes and 30.44 seconds.
Jakabos was traced by Katheryn Meaklim of South Africa, who remained almost 16 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall with a timing 4 minutes and 46.05 seconds.
Anouque Berghuis of Netherlands did not take part in the race and was unable to secure any spot.
After few moments, Hosszu once again emerged on the starting blocks for the playoff of Women’s 200m butterfly. Hosszu served notice of her talent in the distant butterfly discipline and clinched her second gold medal of the evening,
With her unrelenting efforts in the eight-lap discipline, Hosszu enjoyed a lead of more than one and a half body length over her closest rival and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.31 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was 1.30 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing wall for silver medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 10.61 seconds.
Jakabos was followed by Kin Lok Chan of Hong Kong, who was considerably behind her but managed to occupy third position of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 13.12 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was contented with her title claiming effort and collected her medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
