Katinka Hosszu claims Women’s 800m freestyle gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary claimed gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on opening day of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
Hosszu served notice of her talent in the distant freestyle discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
She showed no leniency to her challengers and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 8 minutes and 21.94 seconds.
The champion was followed by Alanna Bowles of Australia, who was 0.76 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end as second position holder by submitting a time of 8 minutes and 22.70 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Jessica Pengelly of South Africa, who stayed only 0.11 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as third best finisher by reporting a time of 8 minutes and 22.81 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Laura Crockart of Australia, who stayed nearly 3.15 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing blockade with the timing of 8 minutes and 25.86 seconds.
Crockart was chased by Leah Cutting of Australia, who remained considerably slower from her following swimmer and proved her eligibility for fifth position by hitting the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 40.67 seconds.
Cutting was traced by Marina Chan of Singapore, who tried hard to reach the podium but was unable to match the pace of her opponents in the final lap and ended sixth in a time of 8 minutes and 57.39 seconds.
Chan was trailed by Rachel Marjorie Tseng of Singapore, who was 0.99 seconds slower and clocked a time of 8 minutes and 58.38 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Jessica Marston of New Zealand, who stayed almost nine seconds slower and clocked a time of 9 minutes and 07.68 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu expressed happiness over her victory in the 800m discipline and stressed that she would continue her hard work and try to defend her title at upcoming competitions.
