Katinka Hosszu clinches Women’s 200m butterfly title - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on initial day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
The Hungarian swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the playoff of the race, as she sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for the title.
Hosszu experienced strong resistance from Liuyang Jiao of China from the start but with her notable form, she managed to outsmart her over the finishing end for the title.
With her immaculate pace, she remained only an inch ahead of her closest challenger and tapped the wall for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 02.20 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained 0.08 seconds faster from Jiao, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 02.28 seconds.
Jiao was trailed by Jemma Lowe of Great Britain, who stayed full body length behind and completed the podium by securing bronze medal of the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.19 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Zige Liu of China, who was 0.80 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.99 seconds.
Liu was traced by Kathleen Hersey of USA, who was nearly two seconds slower from her former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 05.90 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Katerine Savard of Canada, who was 0.66 seconds behind and completed her race in a time of 2 minutes and 06.56 seconds.
Savard remained 0.01 seconds ahead of Kona Fujita of Japan, who ended seventh in the race with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.57 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Nao Kobayashi of Japan, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 08.95 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was overjoyed with her effort and collected medal and accolade at the victory ceremony of the event.
