Katinka Hosszu clinches Women’s 200m freestyle gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Tokyo
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the seventh stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, November 6.
Hosszu faced tough competition from her team-member, Zsuzsanna Jakabos in the eight-lap discipline but with her unrelenting efforts, she managed to ascend on the victory stand for gold medal.
Her gruelling effort remained half a body length ahead of Jakabos as she tapped the wall for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 1 minute and 54.94 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Jakabos, who stayed 0.42 seconds slower from her former finisher and reached the wall with a nice effort of 1 minute and 55.36 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Kelly Stubbins of Australia, who was full body length apart and transpired on the finishing blockade for third position with the timing of 1 minute and 56.50 seconds.
Similarly, fourth position of the race was obtained by Melanie Schlanger of Australia, who was 0.01 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 56.51 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was chased by Maho Takiguchi of Japan, who stayed was only 0.12 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 1 minute and 56.63 seconds.
Takiguchi was chased by Yasuko Miyamoto of Japan, who was almost one and a half body length behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 58.12 seconds for sixth place.
Miyamoto was traced by Misato Yamazaki of Japan, who remained 1.32 seconds apart and completed her race in a time of 1 minute and 59.35 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was chased by Yuuko Mayumi of Japan, who stayed 0.31 seconds away from upsetting her foregoing finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 59.66 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu received massive appreciation from the audience for her scintillating form in the 200m discipline and stressed that she would train harder in order to achieve the same at forthcoming swimming competitions.
