Katinka Hosszu conquers Women’s 200m freestyle prelims – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary conquered the qualifying rounds of Women’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Hungarian swimmer, who outshined at the earlier two stops of the World Cup Series in Dubai and Doha, sent an alarming message to her opponents by dominating the initial round of the 200m event.
Hosszu was just an inch ahead of her closest competitor and made her way to the finishing end as top fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 1 minute and 58.19 seconds.
Hosszu was followed by Rieneke Terink of Netherlands, who was 0.01 seconds behind and entered the playoff as second best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.20 seconds
Third best qualification spot of the event was obtained by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was 0.31 seconds slower and emerged on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.51 seconds.
Jakabos was trailed by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who was only 0.06 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 58.57 seconds.
Miley was chased by Jessica Morrison of Australia, who stayed 0.17 seconds apart and ended her race in fifth best place by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 58.74 seconds.
Sixth best qualification spot of the race was obtained by Petra Granlund of Sweden, who was 0.40 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 59.14 seconds.
Granlund was followed by Louise Hansson of Sweden, who remained 0.01 seconds behind and secured seventh place by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 59.15 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Jessica Cavalheiro of Brazil, who remained 0.06 seconds behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 59.21 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was extremely pleased with her qualification effort and stressed that she would try her level best to continue the same in the playoff. Furthermore, the tournament will end on October 14 after the completion of all events.
