Katinka Hosszu dominates Women’s 200m butterfly heats: Day six – European LC Championships
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary dominated the preliminary rounds of Women’s 200m butterfly on sixth day of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Saturday, May 26.
The 23-year-old Hosszu demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the distant butterfly discipline. With her stupendous efforts, she stayed comfortably ahead of her opponents and qualified into the semi-final as fastest swimmer.
Hosszu demonstrated her nerve-wrecking pace and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 07.79 seconds for first position.
Her effort was trailed by her team-member, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who stayed nearly 1.50 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 09.17 seconds for second position.
Jakabos was chased by Martina Granstroem of Sweden, who remained considerably slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.35 seconds.
Granstroem was followed by Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain, who stayed nearly half body length behind and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.10 seconds for fourth position.
Garcia remained full body length ahead of Denisa Smolenova of Slovakia, who claimed fifth best position of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 12.14 seconds.
Next were the qualification rounds of Women’s 50m freestyle, where Britta Steffen of German spoiled the party of her opponents by earning top position of the event.
The German swimmer remained nearly two strokes ahead of her challengers and clocked a time of 24.66 seconds.
Steffen was trailed by Hinkelien Schreuder of Netherlands, who stayed 0.26 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with an effort of 24.92 seconds.
The 28-year-old Schreuder enjoyed an advantage of 0.31 seconds over Anna Dowgiert of Poland, who secured third position of the discipline by posting a time of 25.23 seconds.
Dowgiert stayed 0.07 seconds ahead of Aleksandra Urbanczyk, who concluded her swim in fourth best place by posting a time of 25.30 seconds.
In addition, the audience appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in their respective events while these contestants will compete with each other in the semi-finals to qualify for the final round.
