Katinka Hosszu earns Women’s 100m butterfly gold – 2012 Salnikov Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day one of the 2012 International Vladimir Salnikov Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Friday, December 21.
Hosszu, who occupied gold medal of the 200m Individual Medley (IM) earlier at the session, went full rampant in the playoff of the 100m discipline and raked the title.
With her relentless efforts in the 100m discipline, Hosszu enjoyed a half body length lead over her closest competitor and transpired on the finishing wall for the title with the timing of 56.72 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Bulgaria, who was 0.33 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 57.05 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Veronika Popova of Russia, who stayed 0.79 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 57.84 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Marieke Guehrer of Australia, who remained 0.13 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end for fourth position with the timing of 57.97 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Irina Bespalova of Russia, who stayed 0.04 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 58.01 seconds.
Bespalova was followed by Anastasia Lyazeva of Russia, who remained 0.92 seconds slower and made his way towards the finishing blockade for sixth place by touching the wall with the timing of 58.93 seconds.
Lyazeva was followed by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who was 0.46 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for seventh place by clocking a time of 59.39 seconds.
Michalak was followed by Russian swimmer, Svetlana Chimrova, who failed to overpower any of her opponents over the finishing end and concluded her race in eighth place by posting a time of 59.60 seconds.
Furthermore, Hosszu expressed happiness over her gold finish in the race and stressed that she would continue her hard work in order to accomplish the same at forthcoming swimming competitions.
