Katinka Hosszu earns Women’s 400m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, October 3.
The Hungarian swimmer stifled hopes of her opponents in the distant IM discipline as she went on a rampage and secured gold medal of the race.
Hosszu, who captured gold medals of 800m and 200m freestyle on initial day of the tournament, continued her gruelling form on concluding day and occupied the title with a wonderful timing of 4 minutes and 31.34 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed more than five seconds apart and touched the wall for silver medal by producing a splendid effort of 4 minutes and 36.93 seconds.
Zsuzsanna was trailed by Kathryn Meaklim of South Africa, who stayed 1.99 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 38.92 seconds for bronze medal.
Meaklim was followed by Jordis Steinegger of Austria, who stayed almost three body lengths behind and touched the wall for fourth position by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 41.95 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth position of the race was obtained by Kin Lok Chan of Hong Kong, who stayed almost nine seconds behind and settled on the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 50.06 seconds.
Chan was trailed by Moriah Simonds of USA, who proved her eligibility for sixth best place of the event by touching the wall with an effort of 5 minutes and 03.90 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Anouque Berghuis, who was considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 5 minutes and 11.73 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Berghuis’ teammate, Katerina Kovalenko, who remained almost 20 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 5 minutes and 21.97 seconds.
Furthermore, Hosszu was extremely contented with her title claiming effort and stressed that she would continue her hard work in order to achieve the same at forthcoming swimming events.
