Katinka Hosszu earns Women’s 400m IM title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Thursday, October 18.
The Hungarian swimmer served notice of her talent in the distant IM discipline and proved her mettle for the crown. With her gruelling efforts, she gained a comfortable lead over her opponents in the start and paved her way to the medal rostrum for the title.
She showed no mercy to her opponents in the 16-lap discipline and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 30.14 seconds.
The champion was followed by her teammate, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who stayed 0.66 seconds apart and secured silver medal of the discipline by reporting an effort of 4 minutes and 30.80 seconds.
Jakabos was chased by Becca Mann of USA, who suffered a loss of 5.07 seconds from her foregoing finisher and occupied third position by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 35.87 seconds.
Mann was traced by Celina Li of USA, who stayed considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as fourth position holder by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 39.45 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Kristina Krasyukova of Russia, who was half body length away from improving her position and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 40.18 seconds.
Krasyukova was trailed by Victoria Malyutina of Russia, who remained only 0.28 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 40.46 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh spot of the event was secured by Veronika Popova of Russia, who stayed more than a body length apart and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 41.73 seconds.
Popova remained in a significant lead over Rongrong Zheng of China, who ended up her race in eighth place by posting a time of 4 minutes and 44.44 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was overjoyed with her gold finish in the event and collected her medal after the race.
