Katinka Hosszu grabs Women's 200yard IM gold: Day one – 2011 Texas Invitational
Katinka Hosszu of USC grabbed gold medal of Women's 200yard Individual Medley (IM) on the primary day of the 2011 Texas Invitational in Austin, on Thursday, December 1.
Hosszu emerged as the strong contender for gold spot in the first lap. She completed her first round in a top fastest time of 24.48 seconds. She remained 0.65 seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Karlee Bispo of Texas, who ended her first lap in a time of 25.13 seconds.
Maya DiRado of Stanford remained third fastest swimmer as she completed her initial lap with the timing of 25.27 seconds.
Hosszu went rampant in the second lap of the race, where she sustained her fastest spot by completing her first half in a time of 52.57 seconds.
DiRado also geared up her swim in the second lap and moved up to the second fastest spot by ending her initial half with an effort of 53.30 seconds. Bispo remained 0.48 seconds slower from her former finisher and concluded her first round in a time of 53.78 seconds.
The 22-year-old Hosszu cemented her place for top spot in the third round, where she submitted a time of 1 minute and 25.68 seconds. She remained 2.06 seconds ahead of DiRado, who clocked a time of 1 minute and 27.74 seconds for the equivalent distance.
DiRado remained 0.67 seconds away from Bispo, who ended her third lap with an effort of 1 minute and 28.41 seconds.
Hosszu maintained her speed in the final round, where she remained prominently ahead of her competitors and reported a time of 1 minute and 52.71 seconds for gold medal. She remained 1.95 seconds ahead of DiRado, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 54.66 seconds.
Similarly, Bispo remained 1.85 seconds slower than her former finisher and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 56.51 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, Hosszu was delighted with her immaculate effort in the IM discipline whereas the position holders were awarded accolades for their wonderful efforts after the conclusion of session.
