Katinka Hosszu grabs Women’s 100m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Hungarian swimmer spoiled the party of her opponents in the 100m IM and paved her way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
Hosszu served notice of her talent in the four-lap race as she enjoyed a lead of more than half a body length over her closest challenger and touched the wall with a timing of 59.74 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by her team-member, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who stayed nearly 0.70 seconds slower from Hosszu and transpired on the finishing blockade as second best finisher by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.41 seconds.
The silver medallist was traced by Britta Steffen of Germany, who stayed more than full body length behind and emerged on the finishing wall for bronze medal by producing an effort of 1 minute and 01.58 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was secured by Katheryn Meaklim of South Africa, who missed out her spot on the podium as she remained 1.50 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 03.08 seconds.
Meaklim was trailed by Kin Lok Chan of Hong Kong, who was 0.23 seconds apart and reported a time of 1 minute and 03.31 seconds for fifth position.
Chan was followed by Lynette Ng of Singapore, who stayed 1.90 seconds behind and finished sixth in the race by ending her race in a time of 1 minute and 05.21 seconds.
Subsequently, Ng remained 0.40 seconds ahead of Jenny Mensing of Germany, who earned seventh position of the event by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 05.61 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Anouque Berghuis of Netherlands, who was nearly six seconds apart and concluded her swim by reporting a time of 1 minute and 11.42 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was happy with her fourth gold medal of the night and articulated that she would try to achieve the same at the next stop of World Cup Series.
