Katinka Hosszu impresses in Women’s 200m IM semi-finals: Day three – European LC Championships
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary impressed the aquatic crowd in the semi-finals of Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day three of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Wednesday, May 23.
The 23-year-old Hosszu stayed marginally ahead of her challengers in the second round of the 200m IM and paved her way to the finishing end as the top qualifying swimmer.
With her immaculate efforts, she dictated terms to her challengers from the start of the event as she tapped the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.89 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was chased by Stina Gardell of Sweden, who remained 0.40 seconds apart and entered the final round as second fastest swimmer with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.29 seconds.
Gardell remained 0.38 seconds ahead of Evelyn Verraszto of Hungary, who occupied third finest qualification spot of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 12.67 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who stayed just a stroke away from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.76 seconds.
Afterwards, Bence Biczo of Hungary dominated the semi-finals of Men’s 200m butterfly.
The 19-year-old Biczo sustained his spot in the second round as he stayed full body length ahead and emerged on the finishing blockade as strongest swimmer for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 55.77 seconds.
Biczo was chased by Velimir Stjepanovic of Serbia, who earned second best qualifying position of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 56.84 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was chased by Dinko Jukic, who made his way into the payoffs with the timing of 1 minute and 57.02 seconds.
Similarly, Jukic was followed by Francesco Pavone of Italy, who proved his eligibility for fourth qualifying position of the discipline by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 57.05 seconds.
The championship will conclude on May 27 after the completion of all planned events while the winners raked medals after the session.
