Katinka Hosszu impresses in Women’s 200m butterfly heats - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary impressed in the qualification rounds of the Women’s 200m butterfly on first day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
The Hungarian swimmer dictated terms to her challengers in the distant butterfly discipline as she went full rampant in the first round.
With her astonishing pace, Hosszu remained in a comfortable lead over her opponents as she cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for first position by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.19 seconds.
She was followed by Liuyang Jiao of China, who was 0.69 seconds apart and occupied second position of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.88 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the race was obtained by Kona Fujita of Japan, who was half a body length slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in a time of 2 minutes and 05.42 seconds.
Similarly, Fujita was chased by Kathleen Hersey of USA, who remained only 0.03 seconds slower from her former finisher and surfaced on the wall for fourth position by producing a time of 2 minutes and 05.45 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Katerine Savard of Canada, who was 0.09 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 05.54 seconds.
Savard was chased by Zige Liu of China, who was 0.42 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end for sixth place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 05.96 seconds.
Liu remained 0.18 seconds faster from Jemma Lowe of Great Britain, who secured seventh fastest spot of the race by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 06.14 seconds.
Lowe was traced by Nao Kobayashi of Japan, who was 0.77 seconds behind and concluded her swim in eighth place by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.91 seconds.
Furthermore, Hosszu was overjoyed with her top finish in the race and articulated her desire of reaching the top of podium by repeating the same in the playoff.
