Katinka Hosszu secures Women’s 200m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary secured gold medal of Women’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 6.
Hosszu served notice of her talent in the 200m discipline and paved her way to the finishing wall for gold medal. Her astonishing pace placed her comfortably ahead of her opponents as she faced not trouble in securing the title.
With her immaculate efforts, Hosszu remained almost two body lengths ahead of her closest competitor and touched the wall for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 1 minute and 54.79 seconds.
The champion was followed by Michelle Coleman of Sweden, who stayed 1.46 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as second best swimmer with a timing of 1 minute and 56.25 seconds.
The silver medalist was followed by Daryna Zevina of Ukraine, who stayed only 0.06 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as third position holder by clocking a time of 1 minute and 56.31 seconds.
Fourth spot of the event was obtained by Hang Yu Sze of Hong Kong, who stayed 0.75 seconds behind and settled on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.06 seconds.
Sze was chased by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who suffered a deficit of 0.60 seconds from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.66 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who remained 0.32 seconds behind and touched the wall for sixth position with a timing of 1 minute and 57.98 seconds.
Jakabos was followed by Fei Wang of China, who stayed 0.87 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 59.85 seconds for seventh position.
Last position of the race was obtained by Spela Bohinc of Slovenia, who stayed considerably slower from her former finisher and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 04.88 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was delighted with her title claiming effort and stressed that she would work hard to defend her title in future events.
