Katinka Hosszu secures Women’s 400m IM gold: Day one – European LC Championship
World record holder, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary secured gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Monday, May 21.
The 23-year-old Hosszu stayed considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the distant IM event. With her fascinating efforts, she spoiled the party of her competitors, who were eyeing the title of the 400m event.
Her stupendous effort remained prominently ahead of her opponents from the start and she tapped the wall for gold medal by posting a nice time of 4 minutes and 33.76 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 1.92 seconds ahead of her team-member, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who accomplished silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 35.68 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Barbora Zavadova of Czech, who remained nearly 2.40 seconds apart and settled on the finishing wall by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 38.07 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Stina Gardell of Sweden, who remained just 0.39 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and hit the finishing end with an effort of 4 minutes and 38.46 seconds.
Gardell was followed by Anja Klinar of Slovenia, who was almost 3.50 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing blockade as fifth best finisher by producing a time of 4 minutes and 42.00 seconds.
Her exhausting effort remained 1.72 seconds ahead of Stefania Pirozzi of Italy, who proved her eligibility for sixth position of the event by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 43.72 seconds.
Similarly, seventh finest spot of the race was secured by Pirozzi’s team-member, Alessia Polieri, who was exactly five seconds behind and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 48.72 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Lara Grangeon of France, who was significant slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 53.98 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience for their commendable efforts at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
