Katinka Hosszu seizes Women’s 200m IM gold – 2012 European SC Swimming Championships
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on initial day of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Thursday, November 22.
The Hungarian swimmer, who outshined her competitors in the same discipline at almost every stage of the FINA World Cup series, continued her unravelling efforts at the European tournament.
With her alluring efforts in the eight-lap discipline, Hosszu remained prominently ahead of her challengers from the start and tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a nice effort of 2 minutes and 05.78 seconds.
The champion was followed by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who was 0.43 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 06.21 seconds.
Miley was chased by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who remained 0.45 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and finished third in the race by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 06.66 seconds.
Jakabos was followed by Siobhan-Marie O’Connor of Great Britain, who was more than two body lengths slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 08.85 seconds for fourth place.
Fifth finest spot of the race was obtained by Katrine Holm Soerensen of Denmark, who stayed nearly two body lengths slower and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.67 seconds.
Soerensen was chased by Ganna Dzerkal of Ukraine, who stayed 0.30 seconds slower and posted a time of 2 minutes and 10.97 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the race was obtained Barbora Zavadova of Czech Republic, who was 0.99 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 11.96 seconds.
Zavadova was traced by Wendy V.D. Zanden of Netherlands, who stayed 0.28 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.24 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was overjoyed with her top finish in the race and said that she would struggle hard to achieve the same in forthcoming swimming competitions.
