Katinka Hosszu seizes Women’s 200m butterfly title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
The Hungarian swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the eight-lap freestyle discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
Hosszu gained a marginal lead over her closest swimmer in the first round and continued her thrilling pace throughout the race to ensure her place on top of the medal rostrum.
Hosszu enjoyed a comfortable lead over her toughest competitor as she paved her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 2 minutes and 05.78 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 1.21 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall for second position by producing a nice  effort of 2 minutes and 06.99 seconds.
Third spot of the event was secured by Celina Li of USA, who stayed only 0.17 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end as third best finisher with a fantastic timing of 2 minutes and 07.16 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Martina Granstrom of Sweden, who stayed two body lengths away from her former finisher and surfaced on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.04 seconds.
Fifth spot of the race was obtained by Michelle Cefal of USA, who was 1.94 seconds behind and ended her race by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 10.98 seconds.
Cefal was chased by Katrine Holm Soerensen of Denmark, who was 0.62 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 11.60 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Nancy Schuchhardt, who was half a body length behind and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 12.33 seconds.
Last spot of the swim was secured by Jasmin Rosenberger, who failed to upset any of her opponents and reported a time of 2 minutes and 16.05 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was overjoyed with her top finish in the event and collected medal after the race.
