Katinka Hosszu seizes Women’s 200m freestyle gold – 2012 Salnikov Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 International Vladimir Salnikov Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Friday, December 21.
The Hungarian swimmer continued her unravelling efforts in the 200m event and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal. She faced tough competition from her closest swimmer from the start but with her alluring efforts, she managed to outperform her
over the finishing end for the title.
She remained just a stroke ahead of her strongest competitor and tapped the wall for the crown by producing a time of 1 minute and 55.14 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Melani Costa of Spain, who stayed 0.27 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 55.41 seconds for second position.
Similarly, Costa remained Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who was 0.90 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 56.31 seconds.
Miley was chased by Victoria Malyutina of Russia, who was one and a half body length behind and touched the wall for fourth position by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.56 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the race was secured by Ksenia Yuskova, who was 0.20 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 57.76 seconds.
Yuskova was traced by Alexandra Veselova, who stayed nearly 1.50 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 59.25 seconds for sixth place.
Veselova was followed by Mariya Baklakova, who was 0.21 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for seventh place by producing an effort of 1 minute and 59.46 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Iryna Glavnyk of Ukraine, who was almost 0.80 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.29 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was overjoyed with her title claiming effort and raked medal and accolades for her notable form at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
