Katinka Hosszu seizes Women’s 200m freestyle title – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The Hungarian swimmer lived up to the expectations of her supporters in the eight-lap freestyle discipline as she outsmarted her challengers over the finishing end for gold medal.
With her unrelenting efforts, Hosszu remained comfortably ahead of her opponents from the start and proved her eligibility for the crown. She enjoyed a lead of full body length over her closest competitor and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing
of 1 minute and 55.46 seconds.
The champion was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 0.97 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 56.43 seconds for silver medal.
Jakabos was chased by Jun Jun Guo of China, who was 0.34 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 56.77 seconds.
Guo was trailed by Kylie Stewart of USA, who stayed more than one and a half body length behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.43 seconds for fourth place.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Vitalina Simonova of Russia, who was 0.04 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.47 seconds.
Simonova was chased by Ksenia Yuskova of Russia, who stayed nearly 0.80 seconds behind and made her way to the finishing end as sixth best finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 59.25 seconds.
Similarly, Yuskova enjoyed an advantage of half body length over Leah Smith of USA, who ended up her race in seventh place by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 59.89 seconds.
Smith was followed by Jessica Cavalheiro of Brazil, who remained 0.90 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 00.79 seconds.
Furthermore, Hosszu was happy with her gold finish in the race and stressed that she will try hard to continue the same in future.
