Katinka Hosszu seizes Women’s 400m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary seized gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday, October 14.
The Hungarian swimmer served notice of her talent in the distant IM discipline as she proved her eligibility for the title of sixteen-lap IM event.
With her impeccable pace and strong determination, Hosszu enjoyed more than half a body length lead over her opponents and paved her way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
Hosszu remained prominently ahead of her closest competitor and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 28.01 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 0.78 seconds apart and transpired on the wall for silver medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 28.79 seconds.
Jakabos was traced by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who stayed two body lengths behind and surfaced on the end with a timing of 4 minutes and 30.86 seconds.
Miley was followed by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who was nearly 11 seconds slower from the third position holder and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 41.76 seconds for fourth position.
Michalak was chased by Wendy van de Zanden of Netherlands, who also remained two body lengths behind and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 43.78 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Celine Bertrand, who stayed one and a half body length behind and hit the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 45.02 seconds.
Bertrand was traced by Noora Laukkanen of Finland, who was only 0.18 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as seventh best finisher with a timing of 4 minutes and 45.20 seconds.
Eighth spot of the event was obtained by Frida Berggren, who was almost eight seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 53.27 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was pleased with her title claiming effort and collected her accolade after the event.
