Katinka Hosszu seizes Women’s 800m freestyle gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Tokyo
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary seized gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on opening day of the seventh stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, November 6.
Hosszu lived up to the expectations of her supporters in the distant freestyle discipline as she proved her mettle for the title of the event.
The Hungarian swimmer enjoyed a prominent lead over toughest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for the crown by producing a time of 8 minutes and 24.89 seconds.
The champion was followed by Laura Crockart of Australia, who stayed 0.73 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall for silver medal with an effort of 8 minutes and 25.62 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Emu Higuchi of Japan, who stayed only 0.27 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 8 minutes and 25.89 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was secured by Alanna Bowles of Australia, who was considerably slower from her former finisher and settled on the finishing end with an effort of 8 minutes and 31.67 seconds.
Subsequently, Bowles was chased by Asami Chida of Japan, who stayed 0.50 seconds away from improving her position and surfaced on the wall for fifth position by producing an effort of 8 minutes and 32.17 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Hanako Ueda of Japan, who stayed two and a half body length slower from her former finisher by producing a time of 8 minutes and 34.61 seconds.
Ueda was chased by Yukimi Moriyama of Japan, who stayed almost two seconds slower from her former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 36.55 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Maiko Fujino of Japan, who stayed nearly five seconds apart and concluded her race in a time of 8 minutes and 41.44 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was contented with her top finish in the freestyle discipline and collected medal for her alluring efforts at the prize ceremony of the event.
