Katinka Hosszu snares Women’s 200m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary snared gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 6.
The Hungarian swimmer continued her dominance in the second stop of the World Cup series in Doha, where she showed no leniency to her challengers and earned her way to the top of victory stand for gold medal.
Hosszu, who was one of the most prominent swimmers at first stage of the series in Dubai, continued her nerve-wrecking form in the eight-lap IM discipline and occupied gold medal.
With her commendable form, she enjoyed more than half a body length lead over her opponents and tapped the wall for the crown by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 09.86 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by her team-member, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who stayed 0.72 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade for silver medal by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 10.58 seconds.
Jakabos was followed by Katheryn Meaklim of South Africa, who suffered a loss of almost two seconds from her preceding swimmer and settled on the wall as third best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 12.73 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Joline Hoestman of Sweden, who remained 1.31 seconds behind and ended her race by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 14.04 seconds.
Hoestman was traced by Kin Lok Chan of Hong Kong, who was 1.12 seconds away from upsetting her former finisher and made her way to the finishing blockade for fifth position by completing her race in a time of 2 minutes and 15.16 seconds.
Chan was chased by Anouque Berghuis of Netherlands, who remained considerably slower from her former finisher and surfaced on the wall as eighth position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 30.01 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was delighted with her title claiming effort in the discipline and expressed that she would try hard to defend her title at upcoming events.
