Katinka Hosszu takes Women’s 200m IM title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary took gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The Hungarian swimmer lived up to the expectations of her supporters by dominating the playoff of the 200m discipline. Hosszu faced strong competition from her teammate, Zsuzsanna Jakabos throughout the race but with her impeccable pace, she managed to escape
her over the finishing wall for gold medal.
Hosszu enjoyed a lead of half body length over her closest competitor and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.28 seconds.
The champion was chased by Jakabos, who stayed 0.48 seconds apart and touched the wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 08.76 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Sophie Allen of Great Britain, who stayed 0.74 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.50 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Celina Li of USA, who was almost two body lengths behind and settled on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.43 seconds.
Subsequently, Li was trailed by Kaitlyn Jones of USA, who was 0.21 seconds apart and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 11.64 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who was 0.08 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 11.72 seconds.
Michalak enjoyed an advantage of Veronika Popova of Russia, who was 0.27 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end as seventh best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 11.99 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Becca Mann of USA, who stayed considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 15.44 seconds.
Furthermore, Hosszu received a huge round of applause from the audience and stressed that she would try hard to continue the same in forthcoming events.
