Katinka Hosszu takes Women’s 200m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary secured gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on foremost day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Hungarian swimmer continued her nerve-wrecking effort on third stop of the World Cup Series as she proved her mettle for the crown of 200m event. She gained a comfortable lead over her opponents in the start and dominated her way throughout the race
for gold medal.
With her astonishing efforts in the eight-lap freestyle discipline, Hosszu proved her mettle for gold medal of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 55.30 seconds.
The champion was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was 1.01 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 56.31 seconds.
Jakabos was traced by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who was 0.27 seconds apart and touched the wall for bronze medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 56.58 seconds.
Miley enjoyed an advantage of 0.07 seconds over Jessica Morrison of Australia, who settled on the finishing blockade as fourth best finisher with a timing of 1 minute and 56.65 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Rieneke Terink of Netherlands, who stayed half body length behind and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute 57.28 seconds.
Terink was traced by Louise Hansson of Sweden, who was 0.32 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 57.60 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Petra Granlund of Sweden, who remained only 0.03 seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 57.63 seconds.
Granlund was traced by Jessica Cavalheiro of Brazil, who stayed almost two and a half body length away from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.36 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu was overjoyed with her title claiming effort and said that she would try her level best to please her fans by accomplishing the same in forthcoming swimming events.
