Katinka Hosszu wins Women’s 200m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary won gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
Hosszu experienced strong resistance from Sophie Allen of Great Britain in the eight-lap IM event but with her invincible efforts, she succeeded in asserting her dominance over the finishing end for gold medal.
Hosszu stayed in a prominent lead over her closest challenger and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.13 seconds.
Following that, the audience saw exhausting efforts of Allen and Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who involved each other in a neck-to-neck race for second best spot of the event.
Both swimmers remained engage in a furious battle and made their way to the finishing wall for second position. With their astonishing efforts, they stayed 0.92 seconds slower from the champion and ended their swims in an identical time of 2 minutes and
09.05 seconds for silver medal.
The duo was followed by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who stayed one body length behind and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for fourth position by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 09.94 seconds.
Miley was chased by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who stayed 0.90 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 10.84 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Louise Hansson of Sweden, who remained 0.21 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 2 minutes and 11.05 seconds.
Subsequently, Hansson was trailed by Mio Motegi of Japan, who stayed 0.69 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 2 minutes and 11.74 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Wendy van de Zanden of Netherlands, who was considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in a time of 2 minutes and 13.07 seconds.
Furthermore, Hosszu was happy with her gold finish in the race and collected medal for her gruelling efforts at the prize ceremony of the event.
