Katinka Hosszu wins Women’s 200m butterfly gold – Swimming news
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary won gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly on the second day of the 2013 Mare Nostrum Circuit in Canet, France on Sunday, June 16.
The Hungarian swimmer stifled hopes of her opponents in the distant butterfly discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing end for the title. She faced tough competition from her following swimmer in the four lap event
and emerged on the finishing end to claim the title.
With her commendable form, Hosszu stayed in a lead of half body length over her closest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 08.41 seconds.
The champion was chased by Franziska Hentke of Germany, who was 0.52 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 08.93 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Martina van Berkel of Switzerland, who was almost two and a half body lengths behind and surfaced on the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.58 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Alexandra Wenk of Germany, who remained 0.56 seconds slower from upsetting the third best finisher and settled on the finishing end by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 12.14 seconds.
Subsequently, Wenk was traced by Joanna Maranhao of Brazil, who stayed 0.18 seconds away from her former finisher and tapped the finishing end by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 12.32 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth spot of the discipline was obtained by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who was only 0.38 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 12.70 seconds.
Michalak was followed by Katrine-Holm Soerensen of Denmark, who suffered a loss of 2.04 seconds from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.74 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Samantha Lee of New Zealand, who was considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end for eighth position by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 16.17
seconds.
In addition, Hosszu expressed happiness over her victory in the 200m discipline while the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
