Katinka Hosszu wins Women’s 400m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary won gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Hungarian swimmer demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the mediocre distant freestyle event and collected her third gold medal of the evening.
Hosszu, who captured gold medals of 400m Individual Medley (IM) and 200m butterfly earlier, served notice of her talent and proved her eligibility for the crown of the 16-lap freestyle discipline.
She stayed almost 1.50 seconds ahead of her closest competitor and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 04.24 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who was 1.38 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 05.62 seconds for second position.
Ingram was traced by Daryna Zevina of Ukraine, who stayed one and a half body length slower from her foregoing finisher and ended third in the event by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 07.17 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer was chased by Fei Wang of China, who stayed almost four seconds apart and touched the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 11.06 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was 0.26 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 11.32 seconds.
Jakabos was traced by Spela Bohinc of Slovenia, who stayed nearly eight seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 19.44 seconds for sixth place.
Bohinc was followed by Rachel Tseng of Singapore, who stayed nearly nine seconds behind and posted a time of 4 minutes and 28.80 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Anouque Berghuis of Netherlands, who was 2.53 seconds slower and completed her race in eighth place by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 31.33 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu expressed happiness over her victory and articulated that she would try to achieve the same at subsequent stops of the series.
