Katinka Hosszu wins Women’s 800m freestyle gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary won gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on initial day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
The Hungarian veteran continued her nerve-wrecking efforts in third last stop of the series and proved her mettle for gold medal of the discipline.
Hosszu remained dominant over her opponents throughout the distant freestyle discipline and reached the finishing end for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 8 minutes and 21.49 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Siyu Yan, who stayed only 0.09 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the wall as second fastest swimmer with an effort of 8 minutes and 21.58 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Laura Crockart of Australia, who remained two and a half body lengths behind and surfaced on the wall for bronze medal by submitting a time of 8 minutes and 23.83 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Wenxian Pang, who stayed 1.42 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 25.25 seconds.
Similarly, Pang was traced by Luomeng Ren, who was 3.66 seconds behind and occupied fifth position of the event by completing her race in a time of 8 minutes and 28.91 seconds.
Ren was traced by Xinyu Wang, who suffered a loss of almost two body lengths from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for sixth place with the timing of 8 minutes and 31.58 seconds.
Wang was traced by Alanna Bowles of Australia, who stayed considerably slower from her preceding finisher and touched the wall in a time of 8 minutes and 34.09 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the event was gained by Jiang Yu, who failed to overpower any of her opponents and ended her race in eighth place by clocking a time 8 minutes and 41.03 seconds.
In addition, Hosszu expressed happiness over her victory in the 800m event and collected awards and accolades for her notable efforts after the session.
