Katinka Hosszu wins the Women’s 200m IM event: Speedo Grand Challenge - Swimming News
Katinka Hosszu of Trojan has clinched the Women’s 200m Individual Medley in A Final with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 11.67 seconds, in the 2011 Speedo Grand Challenge at William Woollett Aquatic Centre, in Irvine, on May 27.
Hosszu is the most popular swimmer of Hungary. She has captured many titles in competitive swimming. The Trojan swimmer was very excited and pleased due to her intriguing and acrobatic performance in 200m IM meet.
She won the gold medal in the Women’s 400m IM in the 2009 World Championships in Rome. Hosszu took home three gold titles in the 200m butterfly, 200m IM and 4x200m freestyle events in the 2010 European Championships at Budapest. Besides, she has bagged many
other intriguing titles in competitive swimming events.
Julia Smit of Stanford was placed second in the Women’s 200m IM with a time of 2 minutes and 11.79 seconds. Despite her spirited performance in the corresponding meet, Julia was very happy.
Julia Smit is a well known swimmer of USA. She has claimed one silver and one bronze medal in the Women’s 4x100m events in the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing.
Smit snared four gold medals in the women’s 100m backstroke, 200m medley, 4x100m freestyle and 4x10m medley events in the 2007 Pan American Games.
Jasmine Tosky of Palo Alto secured the third spot in the 200m IM with a time of 2 minutes and 13.80 seconds. Maya Dirado of Stanford wound up fourth in 2 minutes and 15.00 seconds in the respective meet.
At the conclusion of the event, Dirado admitted that it was not a good swim for her, but she will definitely expect herself to perform better in the next events.
She further told that she is going through a learning process and has a gigantic goal just like other swimmers of the world, which is to win at the Olympic Games in London, next year. All swimmers are fighting hard to prove their mettle and are preparing
themselves well for the upcoming important events in the swimming calendar.
