Katla and The Reaper to collide in the Woodlands Stakes (Listed Race) at Naas on 21st April
Naas will host the Woodlands Stakes (Listed Race) over five furlongs on Saturday, 21st April. Taking part in the race that carries the €26,000 purse are six three-year and older thoroughbreds.
All the entries for the race have stepped into the 2012 season and The Reaper has already credited a win on his profile. However there is only one candidate who has raced at Naas, Katla.
Katla, Majestic Missile’s four-year-old bay filly out of mare, Bratislava, has raced at Naas but that too just once. It was actually the only race through which she struck the single victory of the previous season.
Katla won the Dark Angel European Breeders Fund Sweet Mimosa Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) on 20th July at Naas over six furlongs. With W. J. Lee onboard, Katla put the runner up, Empowering, at a short head’s loss. The 3/1 favourite
of the race, Alanza, settled third behind the winner.
The last race that Katla took part in was the Cork Stakes (Listed Race) on 7th April at Cork over six furlongs. The race was won by The Reaper, who will be sharing the track with Katla once more today.
The winner was ridden by J. Murtagh and the runner up, Experience, was deprived of victory by a short head’s difference. Katla finished third behind the winner with Seamie Heffernan onboard.
The 6/1 favourite of the race, Croisultan, was the last entry to race through the six furlongs’ distance.
Katla has raced twice during the 2012 season and has not gone below the third mark. She scored second in her seasonal debut on 23rd March at Dundalk over five furlongs in the Irish News Red Hand Top Tips Race.
She had to compromise with the victory by 1 ¾ lengths which were under command the winner, Timeless Call, who had G. McCullagh onboard.
The four-year-old bay gelding, The Reaper, has raced an additional race as compared to Katla and has struck a win too. Both the contestants have maintained their rankings till the third position.
Today is second time during the month that the two will race together and how will the positions transform this time, will unveil soon.
