Katrina Konopka dominates Women’s 100m freestyle final: Day three – 2011 YMCA Long Course Nationals
Katrina Konopka of Middle Tyger-SC dominated the final of the Women’s 100m freestyle meet on third day of the 2011 Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Long Course Nationals on Wednesday, July 27, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Konopka impressed her fans by winning the gold medal of the event in an amazing time of 2 minutes and 05.01 seconds. She was nearly five seconds away from the national record of 2 minutes and 00.22 seconds, set by Leah Gingrich of West Shore-PA during August,
2008.
She was followed by Elizabeth McDonald of Cheshire-CT, who ended her swim just 0.06 seconds behind Konopka and posted a time of 2 minutes and 05.07 seconds for the silver medal. She was followed by Katy Luchansky of Wilton-CT, who remained 0.64 seconds behind
the silver medallist and reached the podium for the bronze medal, with a timing of 2 minutes and 05.71 seconds.
Megan Alexander of North Shore-MA stayed just 2.01 seconds behind the bronze medallist and emerged as the fourth fastest finisher, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 07.72 seconds. Meaghan Kwarcinski of Gr Holyoke-MA was the sixth fastest swimmer of
the four-lap race, as she sprinted her way to the wall in a time of 2 minutes and 08.17 seconds. Kwarcinski’s time was 0.14 seconds faster than her following competitor, Morgan Brooks of Middle Tyger-SC, who concluded her swim in 2 minutes and 08.31 seconds.
ME Lyons-OH’s Kaitlyn Ferrara surfaced as the seventh fastest swimmer to complete her swim, as she produced a time of 2 minutes and 08.38 seconds. India Boland of North Shore-MA and Julianne Phillips of Portsmouth-VA were ranked as the eighth and ninth best
swimmers, as they posted timings of 2:09.87 and 2:10.31 minutes, respectively. Grace Counts of Powel Crosley-OH was the tenth position holder of the event, as she finished her swim and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 12.02 seconds.
The arena enjoyed the gruelling efforts of all participants, while the championship will continue for two more days to complete all the scheduled swimming events.
