Katy´s Secret facing optimum conditions in 32Red.com Handicap at Southwell
Katy´s Secret’s Southwell record over six furlongs is not bad all. The 5-year-old has won 2-4 over C&D, and looks quite interesting back on Fibersand. Tuesday’s 32Red.com Handicap can go to the William Jarvis-trained, who showed plenty of improvement last
time.
Owned and bred by Miss S. E. Hall, the daughter of Mind Games is facing favourable conditions this afternoon, and can easily produce a positive result. Katy´s Secret was last seen on the winning podium back in December 2011, when she beat Stevie Gee by half
a length.
It was an extraordinary act. After tracking the leaders on inner, she travelled nicely to lead entering the final furlong. The mare soon edged right, and eventually captured the top place with ease.
The dashing mare has not yet tasted success this year, but this does not take anything away from her. She is really a talented runner, and holds the ability to bounce back. No victory since last December is really a concern, but with her optimum conditions,
she has every chance of going well.
Up against her in today’s class 6 meeting are 13 runners. The officials at Southwell are due to start the proceedings at 12:50 GMT. A cash prize of 1,704 is reserved for the ultimate champion.
The bookies have shown great respect to Maltease Ah, giving her the highest odds. Alan McCabe’s charge certainly deserves this honour following an outstanding triumph here last month.
The daughter of Librettist ran a few good races in defeat after registering her first win in August. After plenty of struggle, she finally managed to put her journey back on the winning track last time. An excellent 1¾-length triumph must have boosted up
her confidence, and the filly is highly likely to play a significant role.
Another runner with fair chances is Captain Royale. The Tracy Waggott-trained showed good improvement last time, when seizing the second place at Redcar. The 7-year-old is off a fair mark, and handles this surface very well.
Maltease Ah made all off 6lb lower here last time, and carries fine chances. But she would be surpassed by Katy's Secret, who is really determined to do something special after an improved effort. Good luck to all the participants.
