Kauai Katie grabs another victory for Pletcher in the Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga
The Todd Pletcher trained, Kauai Katie, proved that she had bucket load of talent when she defeated four foes in the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga on 12th August, 2012.
Running under rider Rosie Napravnik, Kauai Katie, swiftly covered the 6 ½ furlong distance in 1 minute and 16.81 seconds and managed to keep the competition at bay.
She finished 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Salamera, while the third place was secured by Fully Living, who fell 1 ½ lengths behind the runner-up.
Kauai Katie set the pace of the race as she took the lead as soon as she broke out of the gate. She completed the first quarter mile in 21.77 seconds and half-mile in 44.93 seconds, keeping the rest at least a length behind.
The juvenile shrugged off anyone who threatened her and finished on top.
Discussing the strategy of the race and how well the filly stretched from 5 ½ to 6 ½ furlongs, trainer Todd Pletcher stated:
"When you go :22 3/5, :44 and change, you always worry how much they'll have in the tank coming back on short rest and going from 5 1/2 [furlongs] to 6 1/2 [furlongs], but I thought she did it well."
The winning jockey expressed her views regarding the performance and told the press that:
“The 6 1/2 [furlongs] is a pretty big step from 5 1/2 [furlongs] for these babies. She just powered down the lane and she wasn’t at the bottom. Not that I didn’t have to ask her, I did ride her down the lane. She was obviously the best here today.”
Bred in Kentucky, Kauai Katie was a sight to watch in this race, she proved that her 12-length victory in her maiden race at The Spa was no fluke and that she is actually talented.
The two-year-old has a perfect record with two victories in two starts and will be looking to extend her winning streak for trainer Todd Pletcher, and mark a successful juvenile season which has so far amassed $168,000.
