Kauai Katie in search of more glory in the Grade 2, $200,000 Adirondack Stakes
Kauai Katie is preparing for her first graded stakes winner at Saratoga in the Grade 2, $200,000 Adirondack Stakes, which will be hosted on 12th August, 2012, and cover a distance of 6 ½ furlongs.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, the filly sizzled in her career maiden at Saratoga on 20th July, 2012, where she romped to a 12-length victory over, Kansas.
The winning filly completed 5 ½ furlongs in an impressive time of 1 minute and 03.66 seconds. The third place was taken by Lenderoflastresort.
Now, the runner is returning for another round, and hopefully the hype and expectation will not affect her performance and she gallop to another winner.
Regarding her maiden, trainer Pletcher told the press:
“We were not surprised she won her first start, but we didn’t anticipate she’d win by 12 lengths or get a 100 Beyer,” Pletcher remarked. “It was as good as a first race can be, and she did it with style and with more in the tank at the end.”
In order to prepare for this race, the juvenile has not done that much practice. Her sole work-out took place on 6th August, 2012, at Saratoga, where she completed five furlongs in 1 minute and 02.57 seconds.
It was jockey Rosie Napravnik who led the filly to her first victory and she will ride her again.
The filly’s natural talent and potential carried her to the front in her maiden, but she might need to put in some extra effort to tackle the undefeated, Cayllano and Salamera, in the Adirondack Stakes.
Salamera, trained by Rodolfo Garcia, is exiting back-to-back victories. On 26th May, 2012, she triumphed in her 4 ½ furlong maiden, after that she claimed the J J'sdream Stakes at Calder Casino and Racecourse, which covered
a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.
The Thomas Amoss trained, Cayllano, is also in incredible form with two impeccable victories.
All the runners will have to adjust to the larger distance, since it will be a step up in distance for most, and it will be interesting to see who prevails in some tough conditions overall.
