Kauto Star’s refreshing revival at the Betfair Chase at Haydock this November
An 11-year-old in the horse racing industry is bursting with experience and does possess exceptional talent, being on the tracks for this long. Same is the story of Kauto Star. He is a beautiful horse with an amazing record but as it is a highly competitive sport, even the slightest scar on the career becomes quite apparent.
Kauto Star has run 38 races out of which 14 are Grade 1 wins and the amount of total races won is 21.
He is a four-time winner of the King George 6 Chase at Kempton, dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and has won the Grade 1 Betfair Chase thrice in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Kauto Star’s trainer, Paul Nicholls, knows for a fact that his horse’s performance at Punchestown in May was quite a horrific experience but is also sure that Kauto Star is capable of proving himself and filling the gap of the miserable defeat by contesting for the Betfair Chase at Haydock on 19th November.
At Punchestown, Kauto Star was tracking behind the lot and even after half way down the track he was only fifth in lead and after that could not really gear up or over run any of the other on the field rather his jockey that day, R Walsh told that the horse never really ran for the race and was the least bit interested in winning it or beating any other horse.
Not being the winner does not always turn out to be an issue but to get deprived from the sense of competition is no less than a curse for a horse his caliber.
It was more on the line that the horse did not seem to be himself and later the connections reconsidered and resolved that the race was not a great idea after all.
Now the show is set for Haydock in November where the zeal and zest with which Kauto Star desires to win would decide his fate for the future that is it time for the colt to bid a farewell to the racing tracks or not just yet.
In case he gets this one then of course his choices regarding further races would increase and the bettors would have more faith in the horse.
The connections are sparing nothing this time as it might well be the last one.
"I'm delighted to report that Kauto Star has been back in training for a few weeks now and all the signs remain positive that he is in great order," Nicholls wrote on his website. "
"He absolutely loves being in training and getting all the attention and, after the service he has given us and racing, he deserves at least that”.
Eleven years’ attachment is not a minor deal so hopefully the horse will make full use of his potential this time.
