Kawasaki GT550 G7 carb running problems- help please?

I have a Standard kawasaki Gt550 G7. It has carbs with anti icing ( same as zr550 zephyr).

My problem is i can not get it to idle properly.

I have had the carbs off several times and it appears im hunting a ghost lol.

Symtoms

from cold needs choke- and instantly revs like mad-

Then idles at 1800rpm- with the idle s***w turned right out- to the point of dropping off!.

1,2,4 run hot

3 runs warm.

The pilot screws are set at 2 1/2 turns out.

main jets are 92

idle jets 35

I have noticed that the butterflies dont seal correctly on all the banks, due to wear on the carb body and possibly butterfly it self.

When i put vacume gauges on it - it reads they are balanced!.

- no vacume leaks anywhere

- standard air box - but only using main filter.

  1. chech vacuum flanges are not punctured  this would give u the same problem change plug in 3 pot other than that u might have a hole in piston or rings might be broken or worn but this is the last resort.just replace the plug first

  2. #3 cylinder may not be getting any spark which is causing that cylinder to run cooler than others. even with no spark you still can sync carbs and get an even vaccum reading.

so, check for spark in that cylinder, best to put new plug in.

  3. I want to see your promlem detail after I will give you message.waiting me.please.

  4. is this you Robin's_bikes says:

    GT550 G7

starrts and revs from cold in secnds with choke one... drop off choke and runs rough.

One carb leaks  if the bike is left on side stand. and nasty rattles  on left side of engine near alternator- sounds like a ball bears rattling in a can.

I know its running rough due to the cabrs are outt of synch. But the rattle im not ur eof. When the bike gets hot , and i switch it off and  then start it- it revvs up to 5thou and i have to use the clutch lever to  bring the revs down.

Thers no vacume leaks and the compression test came backe with gud results.

in any case, you know your gonna have to start from the ground up on this older beast, each carb cleaned  and diaphram checked, each jet cleaned as 1 would do what your suggesting. You already know that, yes your gonna have to tear down, or send them out for rebuild if your uncomfortable with it.
