I want louder pipes on my fuel injected Vulcan, and I'm not really concerned with more power. How can I achieve this inexpensively without losing performance or economy?

  2. Here's what I did on my Vulcan 1600: First, make a wooden plug, slightly tapered to fit tightly into the existing hole in the back of the muffler. Next, you will need a 1 3/4 inch hole saw, one that's made to cut steel. In the center of the hole saw is a drill bit (duh) and you drill through the center of the wooden plug. This, when inserted into the tailpipe, acts as a guide. What you're going to do is cut the center out of the back of the muffler. Once the circular cut is made, you can then use a pair of vice grips to pull and twist the loose inner silencer out of the muffler. It's not welded at the front, so it should come out pretty easily. This will produce a deeper tone without making it a lot louder, and as long as you don't mess with the air cleaner, you won't have to remap your injection system. Do an internet search for "Gadget's fixit page for Vulcans" and you'll find lots of cool stuff, including instructions for muffler mods. Ride safe!  Kenny ;o)

  3. Go down to the hardware store and buy a hacksaw, $10 cheap.
