Im new to riding so go easy on me. Im planning on taking a MSF class and i was wondering if a new 2008 kawasaki ninja was right for me. Ive heard alot about people getting bored after a while with 250 so i was planning on buying a used one. The only thing is that when i saw the 2008 i was amazed at how much they updated it. New or used? thanks.

p.s. my dream is owning a zzr600. This also leads to used.

  1. You could either look for someone who has "gotten bored" with their brand spankin gorgeous new 2008 or buy one yourself with no one else's problems (from abuse) and enjoy it for not that much as they are not that expensive.  Also, you can settle on last years model which isn't bad to learn on and sell for virtually the same price as you bought it if you "get bored" quickly.

Learn lots and enjoy the ride!

  2. Kyle you will get bored, period. The trade off is you might stay alive long enough to learn to ride. You are at high risk for the first year ( insurance crash mortality data). Now factor in ALL the 250cc bike have sold for this year. It may be tough to find one .You have a better chance of finding a 500cc. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

    ( I love the ZZR)

  3. I'm new to riding, too, and will be receiving my 09 ninja 250 in the coming month. I think that's a bit of a tricky question. I would say that if you knew for sure you wanted a 250, I would go with new, just so you know you aren't going to have any problems and you'll have a warranty. I think the answer also depends on what you are going to use your bike for. I'm small to begin with: 5'1" 94 lbs plus I know my bike will be used mostly as a commuter bike. But if your dream is owning a zzr600, getting a used one would be nice for learning, just in case it gets some dings. Just be careful and don't drive so crazy when your starting out. You know your limits. Check your dealers and see how long it would take for you to get either of the bikes. If you want a bike asap, go with whichever one you can get sooner.

  4. The 250 will be fine, when you get bored you will trade it in, but thats not a big deal.  Used will save you some money and you will get most of it back when you sell it, but that new Ninja 250 looks sweet.

  5. get a used one the 08 looks nicer, but it is slower and gets worse gas mileage
