  1. I can't believe nobody's had an opinion on this in two hours!  So I'll tell you what I think.

The Vulcan 500 is an excellent starter bike.  Cruisers have a low center of gravity which makes them easier to manage.  500cc is a good compromise between power and lightness, enough power to cruise on the freeway but no bigger or heavier than you really need.  And cruisers are safer, probably because of the way they're ridden--they support a laid-back, relaxed riding style that will help keep you out of trouble. (Motorcycle junkyards are full of hot sportbikes that crashed and were totaled with 5000 mi. on them)

5'7" is what we call 'inseam challenged'. Hopefully you can sit on the bike with both feet flat on the ground.

I wouldn't have bought such a new bike to learn on.  You'd feel bad if you dropped it.  New riders are hard on bikes!  But if considering the cost makes you more careful, then it's all for the better!

I don't have to say I hope you enjoy the rest of the Summer, I know you will!  I'll only say I hope you enjoy biking as much as I do. Which is a lot.

    Think -safety-! Good luck!
