I have had my 1994 kawasaki supper sport for a few years and when i got it it had sticky butterflys in the carb. you will turn on the choke and when you turn it off the butterflys sat closed. its not the cable even with you hand it seems rough. i am going to tak ethe carb aout and clean and oil these parts but i dont know if anyone knows why it does this. i talked to somone who ha dthe same problem with their exact model so i think it is just a kawisaki problem but i want to fix it. I installed a priming system on it so i dont need the choke but that doesnt even seem to work every time. Thanks

  1. Remove the butterfly itself from the shaft (usually two small screws) then remove the shaft from the carb body. Clean the shaft & the carb body openings it pivots in; lubricate & reassemble.

If the problem still exists remove the butterfly again & gentley shave down the edges with a file or medium grit sandpaper & reassemble. That should eliminate any friction between the butterfly & the carb body.

  2. taking it apart and cleaning it thoroughly is a good start. If there is enough carbon buildup, it could cause it to stick, but I would imagine it would be pretty obvious if that were the case (thats a lot of carbon).

I would have said its the cable, or the return spring on the cable, but since you've ruled that out, I guess its not that.

One other thing you might look at is the pin that the butterfly spins on. It might be bent/warped or could be gunked up with something.
