They say that it is because of the bulging caldera... anyway i just also read that this atom smasher could be the end of earth as we know it... could you shed some light on this because I think its interesting that in the movie this was an issue that was occuring simultaneously as that volcanic explosion at yellowstone.

  1. i dont know anything about yellowstone but as to what im assuming youre speaking of, the particle accelerator, some beleive it could possibly create a black hole that would swallow the earth or possibly a catylclismic explosion

i dont beleive it will but as ive heard thats what thats about

but i have never heard anything about that having any link to yellowstone

  2. There is indeed a dormant vulcano under Yellowstone, the hot springs and guysers are the proof of that.

Forget about the movie, that was just fiction. However, if the guysers and hot springs were to stop, that may well build up pressure for an eruption, but it would not be Earth destroying.

  3. There's no connection between the two.

  4. So far, the scientists are saying the new Atom smasher does nothing new that doesn't occur naturally, and that even Stephen Hawking has said that any possible miniature black hole that might be created, will almost instantly evaporate again, due to the lack of proper conditions to survive. Some group of radical scientists is making noises about the "remote" possibilities of something horrendous going wrong. But hopefully they are wrong.

AS far as Yellowstone, it is one of 3 Supervolcanos known to exist on earth. The last time it erupted , was over 650,000 years ago, and devastated a huge area, and probably changed Earth's weather patterns for a few years. Unfortunately, it IS 50,000 years overdue for another eruption, although scientists are skeptical that it will blow anytime soon. If it did, the entire Mid-west would be nothing but ash and cinder debris from the fallout. Only the East coast and west coast would survive somewhat intact. Mexico and Canada would both be affected by the fallout. Likely to happen? Who knows. Much like Pompeii, we'll know when it happens.
