Question:

Kayak Fishing?

Has anybody ever tried it? How did it work? Seems like you'd have to carry minimal supplies, but you could get to some really cool spots that aren't reachable by outboards or rowboats. I'm not sure why I don't see anyone else doing it though. I'm thinking about trying it next week. What are your thoughts.

  1. im supposed to be goin sunday im super ooper excited!

  2. I frequently fish from a kayak.  Its great for small ponds and calm rivers.  My fishing kayak is set up with 2 Scotty rod holders for trolling and an electronic fish finder.  I also have a paddle leash so I don't lose it when I am casting or fighting a fish.  If you want to fly fish from a kayak get the longest fly rod you can.  Catching a 20 pound pike from a kayak is a fun challenge.  I've done it once and the fish dragged me about 200 feet before I landed it.  I tried several kayaks before I bought mine.  The best one for fishing is the Wilderness Systems Pungo.  I like the 14 foot long version.  The others that I found good are perception Angler and Old Town Predator.

  3. never tried it, but definately make sure you read up on it. I believe canoes would be a better boat, then a boat like a Kayak that requires much physical movement. -_-

  4. Here's my baby... well, not exactly: http://www.heritagekayaks.com/redfish12....

She's stable enough to stand on for better casting and sightfishing. Tacklebox and or bait bucket can be secured in the back, or you can trail the bait bucket behind you. Rodholders allow for trolling while paddling. Got a cup holder and room for a small cooler if I feel like lugging it around... "dry" storage in front and behind the seat (nothing's really dry in a kayak, always transport your electronics in a plastic bag if it's not waterproof). She's quieter on the water than nearly any other boat, able to navigate in mere inches, relatively maneuverable, lightweight.... I love my 'yak... I just gotta figure out how to safely carry the baby around on it.... *sigh*

  5. People fish from kayaks all the time, and a few companies make kayaks especially for fishing. Get a small tackle box from wal-mart. I bought one that is a belt clip and as big as a cigarette pack. Comes in real handy. Carry a single rod, I prefer a good spinning rod for all around fishing, and depending on what you are going to fish for I would bring some beetlespins, rooster tails, and some plastic worms with bass hooks and a few weights.

  6. my friend told me that he did it and it wasnt too much fun because there was no space to move around or too cast. i'd personally stick to my fishing boat. it may be more trouble than its worth.

  7. I KEPT TIPPING OVER, HUST GIMMIER A NET COULD HAVE JUST SCOOPER THEM UP

  8. I haven't tried it myself. However there are people that have had good luck doing so.Saltwater and freshwater anglers a like. Some fly fish from them and I've know some that have been carp fishing from one. They seemed to enjoy it.
