Kayak lessons?

I have just purchased a kayak and am really enjoying it but I am wondering if it is necessary to take a lesson. It seems easy enough but are there some things that can only be learned by being taught or could I teach myself with a little effort?

it depends what u want to do. if u want to learn to roll then yes, lessons are key.  but if you are just paddeling, you don't need to take lessons.  Do u have a kayak with a skirt? if u do, you should learn to do a wet exit (basically practice flipping your kayak and pulling the cord, which should always be on the outside of your kayak, and getting out of it.  whatever u do, don't pannic).  but u should be able to teach yourself. its not too difficult.  remember, practice makes perfect
