Kayaking excercises?

I'm training for a couple of river and sea races this year. My skill level is probably intermediate. I'd like to know what exercises can I do to help my strength and endurance as well as if there are any cross training programs to stop boredom.

  1. Am a Canoe and Dragon Boat rower. I've been in this sport for almost 5 years now. To help up your strength and staminal, ofcourse one should have a regular physical training. For what i do, i will go hiking/trekking to the wood every 3 or 4 times a week to gain my staminal (with time counting). Nevertheless, the main key in Kayaking is you need a strong arms to paddle. There is a lot of ways to pick up, my way of doing is swimming and train in the gym, i do a lot of the e-rowing too. Well, those are my simply simple regular work-out before any races.  

    Besides, a regular training with your coach is a must, if you have one! :) These may go with your team mates or friends together, fun though.
