Kayla Clarke, Daniel Fox win gold medals in Multi-Class Swimming events - 2011 Arafura Games
Kayla Clarke and Daniel Fox of the Australian Squad conquered gold medals in the final rounds of their swimming events, on third day of the 2011 Arafura Games.
Second session of the day included the finals of 100m freestyle, 50m breast-stroke and the 100m back-stroke for the Male and Female swimmers of Multi-Class category.
The session began with the Girl’s 100m freestyle, where the undisputed Kayla Clarke showered her swimming skills to earn the gold spot on the podium. Clarke, who qualified as the fastest swimmer into the finals, earned the gold medal with a timing of 1:05.55
minutes. She was followed by West Australia’s Katherine Downie and Australian Taylor Corry, who finished their swims in 1:05.24 and 1:06.87 minutes, respectively, to earn the silver and bronze medal.
Next was the equivalent event in Boy’s category, where Daniel Fox covered won the gold medal, posting a time of 57.74 seconds. Fox was followed by 15-year-old swimmer, Mitchell Kilduff, who scored silver medal by clocking a time of 57.74 seconds. Team-member,
Timothy Antalfy followed them on the podium for the bronze medal, clocking a time of 55.56 seconds.
Moments later, Katherine Downie won the title of Girl’s 50m breast-stroke by overwhelming her rivals, Amanda Fowler and Kayla Clarke. Clarke, who earned the gold medal in the prior event, failed to overcome Downie’s 41.79 seconds effort. Fowler followed
her on the podium for the silver medal, clocking 40.42 seconds, while Clarke settled for bronze medal in 40.49 seconds.
In the Boy’s corner, Richard Elliason of the Australian Squad dominated the event to claim the title by submitting a time of 33.27 seconds. He was comfortably ahead of his following swimmer, Somchai Doungkaew of Thailand, who touched the wall for silver
medal by clocking a time of 1:02.85 minutes. Australian, Timothy Antalfy, settled on the podium for the bronze medal, reporting in a time of 35.97 seconds.
The last event of the session was Girl’s 100m back-stroke, where the arena’s favourite, Clarke once again reached the podium for the gold medal, with a timing of 1:13.91 minutes. Downie and Taylor Corry followed her on the podium for the silver and bronze
medal, in a time of 1:13.69 and 1:17.48 minutes, respectively.
The championship will continue for one more day and will conclude after the completion of all swimming events.
