Kayla Clarke claims Women’s 400m IM Multi-Class title – McDonald's Qld Swimming Championships
Kayla Clarke of Yeronga Park SC Inc dictated terms to her competitors and claimed gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) discipline in the Multi-Class category on fifth day of the 2011 McDonald's Queensland Swimming Championships on Wednesday, December 14 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
The 20-year-old Clarke stunned the arena by capturing her second gold medal of the evening. Earlier, she earned the title of Women’s 100m butterfly and now her scintillating effort in the IM event won the hearts of arena.
Clarke met the expectations of her fans by capturing gold medal of the event in a phenomenal time of 4 minutes and 52.33 seconds. She remained nearly twenty-three seconds ahead of her competitor, Hellen Haseloff of Redcliffe Leagues SC Inc, who reached the podium for silver medal by producing a time of 5 minutes and 15.64 seconds.
The third fastest spot of the event was owned by Katrina Porter of Sydney University, who stayed nearly half a minute behind Haseloff and settled on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 5 minutes and 41.36 seconds.
Rakiya Thomas of McCredie Park and Lauren Folster of Chandler SC Inc transpired on the finishing wall as fourth and fifth fastest finishers with timings of 5:45.04 and 6:14.09 minutes, respectively.
Moments later, the arena witnessed a fascinating effort of Brenden Hall in the Men’s equivalent event. Hall of Grace SC clinched gold medal of the Men’s event by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 17.83 seconds.
He was followed by Jay Dohnt of South Australia, who occupied second position of the event with a timing of 5 minutes and 04.60 seconds. Rowan Crothers of Albany Creek Swim Club Inc was sighted as the third position holder of the event as he clocked a time of 4 minutes and 34.38 seconds.
Ethan Chan of Redcliffe Leagues SC Inc and Blake Cochrane of Southern Cross SC ended their swims in fourth and fifth place with timings of 4:41.65 and 4:58.98 minutes, respectively.
The session ended after the IM events whereas the champion will complete on December 16 after the completion of all listed events.
