Question:

Kaytee Exact Hand Feeding Formula for all baby birds?

I am caring for a baby bird. I would like to know if this formula works for feeding baby birds. I am feeding regular oatmeal mix (with water in it) to the baby bird I have. I am thinking of weaning him/her soon... Does anyone have advice on weaning, feeding, or caring for baby mourning doves? (Ps: there are NO vetranirains, rehab centers, or anything else for this baby bird, and no parent birds, for the nest was attacked by blue jays, who killed its sibling, and chased the parents away. I am caring for this near-flegling baby until it can fly well enough to survive.) PLEASE HELP!!

  1. i hand rasied my goffin cockatoo on this formula just make sure you feed it at 101-105 degrees so bird does not get infection

  2. Yes, I would definately recomend feeding Kaytee. I have raised countless pigeons and doves on this formula and it seems to work better than anything else. Follow the instructions on the back, make sure the formula is warm but not hot. Be careful not to overfeed, just feed until the crop is full, then finish it off with a layer of water. Let the crop empty over night.

It's probably getting close to weaning age, so you'll want to start putting seeds and a cup of water in it's cage. Sprinkle the seeds on the ground and soon youll notice the baby start to experiment by picking them up with his beak. At this age, I usually also hand feed seeds as well, just by dropping a few small seeds into the mouth, so the bird can get used to the taste and feel of seeds in the crop (and also for added nutrition). Gradually decrease to feedings to one small feeding a day. Be patient, some babies are slow weaners.
